Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Epilepsy is a paroxysmal disorder, and the unpredictability of seizures adds significantly to the burden of the disease. While several potential risk factors have been recognized, there are no reliable seizure prediction methods available. Among the potential risk factors are sleep-related factors. Both sleep and sleep deprivation are known to be associated with seizures, although this association is complicated and likely bidirectional. Furthermore, the existence of nocturnal seizures points at the possibility of a circadian association between seizures and the 24-hour circadian rhythmicity that may be independent of the sleep–wake status. The goal of this Special Issue is to explore the association between sleep and epilepsy. The focus of this Special Issue is on the juncture of epilepsy and sleep, including sleep- and circadian-related disorders.
