Physical Therapy Rehabilitation in Neuromusculoskeletal Disorders and Electrophysical Agents from Pediatrics to Geriatrics
This special issue belongs to the section "Clinical Care".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In advanced physical therapy, the foundational pillars of neuromuscular rehabilitation are neuromodulatory interventions, electrophysical agents, and therapeutic exercise. By delivering targeted electrical stimulation and advanced neuromodulation, contemporary interventions holistically manage complex rehabilitation challenges across the lifespan—from pediatric cerebral palsy to adult spinal injuries and geriatric neurodegenerative conditions. By ensuring the functional coupling of central motor control and peripheral muscular execution, these technologies act as powerful catalysts for neuroplasticity, facilitating the reorganization of neural networks and the activation of alternative motor pathways, managing spasticity, and shifting the therapeutic paradigm toward dynamic, technology-driven functional restoration.
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, “Physical Therapy Rehabilitation in Neuromusculoskeletal Disorders and Electrophysical Agents from Pediatrics to Geriatrics”.
This Special Issue aims to gather cutting-edge research and clinical trials exploring the synergistic application of physical therapy rehabilitation, neuromodulation, and electrophysical agents (EPAs) in managing neuromusculoskeletal disorders across all age groups. The focus centers on clinical efficacy, holistic approaches, and technological innovations, aligning strictly with the journal’s scope of advancing evidence-based rehabilitation medicine and technology-driven healthcare solutions.
Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following areas:
Lifespan Interventions: Innovative strategies and protocols tailored for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient populations.
Spasticity and Paretic Muscle Management: Application of advanced electrical stimulation protocols (such as FES/NMES) to modulate muscle tone and reactivate paretic musculature.
Technological Innovations in Rehabilitation: Wearable devices, smart orthotics, and biofeedback-assisted systems.
Holistic Management of Musculoskeletal Disorders: Use of electrophysical modalities (e.g., ultrasound, laser, electromagnetic therapies) to manage pain and chronic physical deficits.
Both original research articles and review papers are welcome.
We would also appreciate it if you could indicate your interest in contributing a manuscript. A tentative title or topic would be helpful.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Healthcare is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
