Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Ensuring food safety and quality remains a critical priority across global food supply chains. The escalating demand for zero-defect products, coupled with stricter regulatory scrutiny on chemical residues and microbial contaminants, underscores the imperative for rapid, non-destructive solutions that minimize waste while maximizing precision. This Special Issue, entitled "Applications of Rapid Non-Destructive Technology in Food Quality and Safety Detection", highlights cutting-edge advancements in real-time monitoring of food integrity at every stage—from farm to fork. It compiles interdisciplinary research on hyperspectral imaging, spectroscopic sensors (e.g., NIRS, Raman), AI-driven pattern recognition, and emerging techniques such as terahertz spectroscopy to address challenges in contamination detection, shelf-life prediction, and intrinsic quality assessment. Coverage spans applications in perishable commodities (fruits, meat), processed foods (packaging integrity, allergen screening), and emerging contaminants (mycotoxins, antibiotic residues), focusing on integrating these technologies into smart manufacturing workflows. By addressing technical barriers (e.g., standardization, cost-effectiveness) and regulatory compliance, this Special Issue will bridge the gap between laboratory-scale innovation and industrial scalability. Through collaborative insights from food scientists, engineers, and policymakers, these advancements will redefine strategies for building resilient, sustainable food systems that prioritize consumer trust, resource efficiency, and regulatory alignment.
