2022 Impact Factors for MDPI Journals
The 2022 citation metrics have been released in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR), and we’re pleased to announce the following results for MDPI journals:
We are thrilled to announce that 90% of our ranked MDPI journals, specifically 86 out of 96 (captured in the table below), are performing above average in Q1 or Q2. This year, Clarivate has expanded its Impact Factor (IF) awards to include journals in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) and the Arts and Humanities Citation Index (AHCI), providing greater transparency for the full set of journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection. As a result, 111 of MDPI journals have received their first IF in 2023, with 37 journals surpassing an IF of 3.0. In total, 208 MDPI journals have been honored with an IF.
Clarivate explains that by "expanding the coverage but holding to highly selective standards, the [Impact Factor] is now a reliable indicator of trustworthiness, as well as a measure of scholarly impact, at the journal level."
Please visit our blog post where we discuss the release of the latest citation metrics with our Indexing Manager, Dr. Constanze Schelhorn, to find out what's different this time around and how to make use of different metrics available.

Fire | Recruiting Editorial Board Members and Topical Advisory Panel Members for Section “Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation of Combustion and Fire”

Fire (ISSN: 2571-6255) is an international open access journal pertaining to the science, policy, and technology of fires and their interactions with communities and the environment. To develop a forum for the advancement of mathematical modeling and numerical simulation in the prediction and analysis of fire and combustion phenomena, we are pleased to announce the addition of a new Section “Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation of Combustion and Fire”.
Combustion and fire science share the same fundamentals, but differ in their focus of application. Traditionally, the two subjects have been treated as distinct groups. This Section considers the common fundamentals and similarities between the two disciplines and provides a common platform. This should improve communication between the two research areas and serve to better exploit the existing synergetic potential.
Numerical simulations are increasingly used as predictive tools. With the increase in available computer resources as well as computational methods, the importance of simulation techniques is constantly growing. This Section is intended to reflect this and to emphasize the importance of modeling and simulation in combustion and fire research. It provides a dedicated platform for scientists and engineers to disseminate information on the development and improvement of mathematical and numerical models as well as software tools for the prediction and analysis of combustion, fire, and related phenomena.
We believe that application work can be as valuable as development work. Therefore, innovative applications of models and software tools are equally encouraged.
Although this Section is primarily concerned with the development and application of mathematical and numerical methods and software tools, adequately documented experimental studies that can serve as a database for model validation are also welcome.
We are currently recruiting Editorial Board Members (EBMs) and Topical Advisory Panel Members (TAPMs) for this Section. If you are an active researcher in this field and are passionate about publishing cutting-edge research, please contact us by email at minnie.li@mdpi.com.
Please also feel free to contact minnie.li@mdpi.com if you would like to submit papers to this Section.

MDPI will be attending the 8th International Wildland Fire Conference (IWFC), which will take place in Porto, Portugal, from 16 to 19 May 2023. The first IWFC meeting was held in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1989. Since then, a series of conferences have been initiated to promote the exchange of expertise and international cooperation in wildland fire management. Previous conferences have helped organizations and professionals from over 70 countries to develop common firefighting vocabulary, theory, training manuals, techniques, and operational standards. The 8th IWFC aims to create a space for researchers to present their latest work in the field of wildland fire. The conference welcomes institutional or professional case studies, scientific work, and papers detailing operational successes or failures in dealing with complexity and uncertainty when governing or managing wildfire risk.
MDPI invites researchers from different backgrounds to attend this conference to share their latest views and research with us.
The following MDPI journals will be represented:
If you plan on attending this conference, please feel free to stop by our booth and start a conversation with us. Our delegates look forward to meeting you in person and answering any questions that you may have.

2023 International Day of Forests
We hope you will join us in celebrating and further protecting the planet’s forests this International Day of Forests, which takes place on the 21st of March. The theme for the 2023 International Day of Forests is "Forests and Health”. Forests give so much to our health, they purify the water, clean the air, capture carbon to fight climate change, provide food and life-saving medicines, and improve our well-being. It is up to us to safeguard these precious natural resources. At MDPI, our open access journals are primarily available online, reducing the company’s impact on deforestation and helping to protect the world’s forests.
