Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue focuses on the complex relationship between processing, microstructure, and properties in metallic materials. It aims to present innovative research that explains how different processing methods, including traditional thermomechanical treatments, additive manufacturing, and other advanced techniques, influence microstructural characteristics and ultimately control the mechanical, physical, and functional properties of metals.
Areas of interest include advanced processing techniques such as severe plastic deformation, rapid solidification, unique heat treatments, and additive manufacturing. Research focuses on multi-scale microstructural analysis, in situ and operando investigations of structural changes, mechanisms of phase transformation, deformation and strengthening mechanisms, as well as computational and theoretical methods for forecasting connections between processing, microstructure, and properties. Submissions on emerging metallic materials like high-entropy alloys, lightweight alloys, and refractory metals, along with innovative processing methods to improve properties, are highly encouraged.
Original research articles and comprehensive reviews are encouraged in this field to deepen the fundamental understanding and drive practical advances in processing–microstructure–property relationships in metals. This compilation will be a valuable resource for metallurgists, materials engineers, processing scientists, and researchers in academia and industry focusing on the design and optimization of high-performance metallic materials.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Crystals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
