Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In recent decades, the exploitation of resources has led to an increase in world temperatures and aggravated the global warming primarily caused by greenhouse gases. Research efforts have been focused on solving present problems and forecasting future challenges. Answers have been found through methods that mimic naturally occurring processes that have been perfected over thousands of years. These approaches reduce costs, consume less energy, and aim to adopt greener methodologies for environmental friendliness.

Nowadays, it is of great importance to synthesize new and modified materials that mimic natural structures and functions, as they are increasingly used over large surface areas, are highly ordered structures, and can improve the overall efficiency of methods. These biomimetic materials are now applied in a wide range of fields, including in medical technologies, environmental catalysis, organic synthesis, materials science, and engineering, making them ideal candidates to up-scale due to their interdisciplinary nature.

This Special Issue, “New Insights in Photocatalytic Performance of Biomimetics Composites”, covers topics related to the synthesis and characterization of novel or modified catalysts and their use in photocatalysis approaches. Applications such as CO2 reduction, oil–water separation, self-cleaning surfaces, environmental remediation, water splitting, and solar energy conversion are included in this Special Issue. Submissions addressing materials made of heterojunction structures, graphene composites, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), carbon nitride, electrodes for energy storage, as well as modifications of common metal-based semiconductors are welcomed.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Crystals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
