Intervention and Treatment of Pediatric Dentofacial Deformities and Malformations
This special issue belongs to the section "Pediatric Dentistry & Oral Medicine".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The development and treatment of pediatric dentofacial malformations and deformities is one of the most complex fields of pediatric medicine, in which developmental, genetic, systemic and therapeutic factors are intertwined. Historically, approaches have focused primarily on morphological correction, while modern research increasingly clearly indicates the importance of the genetic background, syndromic disorders, but also systemic diseases and their therapeutic repercussions on craniofacial growth and development.
The aim of this special issue of the journal is to present contemporary scientific knowledge on the etiology, diagnostics, early intervention and treatment of dentofacial malformations and deformities in childhood, with a special emphasis on genetic and syndromic entities. Special attention is paid to the craniofacial and oral consequences of the disease itself and antineoplastic therapy, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy and transplantation protocols, which can significantly affect the growth of teeth and orofacial structures.
The special edition emphasizes the necessity of interdisciplinary cooperation between different specialties of dental medicine, maxillofacial surgeons, pediatricians, geneticists, oncologists and hematologists in planning an individualized therapeutic approach. Researchers and clinicians are invited to submit original scientific articles, review articles, clinical studies, and case reports that link the systemic disease, therapeutic interventions, and long-term outcomes of treatment of dentofacial malformations related to childhood.
