Emerging Trends in Fluorescent Probes for Bio/Chemical Sensing
This special issue belongs to the section "Optical Chemical Sensors".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Fluorescent probes have emerged as powerful tools for bio/chemical sensing, owing to their high sensitivity, rapid response, operational simplicity and capability for real-time visualization. Inspired by the increasing demand for precise, selective and practical analytical methods, fluorescent sensing systems have been widely applied in the detection of ions, small molecules, reactive species, biomacromolecules, pathogens and disease-related biomarkers. In recent years, advances in molecular engineering, supramolecular chemistry, nanotechnology, nucleic acid recognition and imaging technologies have greatly expanded the structural diversity and functional scope of fluorescent probes. However, challenges remain in improving the selectivity, sensitivity, photostability, biocompatibility, signal accuracy and applicability in complex biological, environmental, food and clinical samples.
This Special Issue, entitled "Emerging Trends in Fluorescent Probes for Bio/Chemical Sensing", seeks contributions that highlight recent progress in the design, synthesis, characterization and application of fluorescent probes and fluorescence-based sensing platforms. Authors are invited to submit original research articles, communications and reviews that address innovative sensing mechanisms, advanced probe structures, multifunctional imaging strategies, portable detection technologies and practical applications in complex real-world systems. We particularly welcome studies that bridge fundamental probe chemistry with analytical performance, biological imaging, disease diagnosis, environmental monitoring, food safety and point-of-care testing.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Design, synthesis and mechanistic investigation of novel fluorescent probes and fluorophores;
- Fluorescent probes for ions, small molecules, reactive species, biomacromolecules, pathogens and disease-related biomarkers;
- Advanced fluorescent probes, including ratiometric, colorimetric, near-infrared, two-photon, lifetime-based and activatable systems;
- Fluorescence-based sensing platforms involving aptamers, nucleic acids, peptides, antibodies, enzymes, nanomaterials or hybrid recognition systems;
- Fluorescent probes for cell imaging, tissue imaging, in vivo imaging, organelle imaging and imaging-guided diagnosis;
- Portable, wearable, smartphone-assisted and point-of-care fluorescence sensing devices;
- Applications of fluorescent probes in environmental monitoring, food safety, clinical diagnostics and other complex real-world samples.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Chemosensors is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
