Epigenetic Aspects of the Noncoding Genome and the Epithelial–Mesenchymal Transition

Dear Colleagues,

The aim of this Special Issue is to focus on the role of transcription factors, epigenetic modifications, chromatin remodeling, and noncoding RNAs in the dynamic event referred to as the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT). During physiological and pathological EMT, cells undergo a profound reprogramming, implying regulation of the expression of numerous genes. In this scenario, a crucial role is performed by transcription factors in driving or inhibiting EMT (e.g., SNAIL) as well as by histone modifications, chromatin architecture and, more recently characterized, noncoding RNAs, in particular microRNAs and lncRNAs. Since this dynamic situation allows for the progression of the complex EMT transdifferentiation program, new insights into the characterization of molecular players involved in this process represent a fundamental field of interest for driving future research. Comprehensive reviews and original articles covering this theme are both welcome in this Special Issue.
