Dear Colleagues,
Cancer remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, posing a major challenge to healthcare systems despite significant advances in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The heterogeneity of cancer diseases and their often asymptomatic development at early stages highlight the urgent need for reliable biomarkers that can improve early detection, prognosis, treatment selection, and monitoring of therapeutic response.
Recent advances in molecular biology, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and liquid biopsy technologies have led to the discovery of numerous promising biomarkers with potential clinical applications. Novel biomarkers may facilitate personalized medicine approaches, allowing for more precise risk stratification and tailored therapeutic strategies. Furthermore, emerging biomarkers may provide valuable insights into tumor biology, mechanisms of disease progression, resistance to treatment, and interactions between cancer cells and the tumor microenvironment.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of recent developments in the field of cancer biomarkers and their potential clinical utility. We welcome original research articles and reviews addressing the identification, validation, and implementation of novel biomarkers across various cancer types.
Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Diagnostic biomarkers for early cancer detection;
- Prognostic and predictive biomarkers in oncology;
- Biomarkers for monitoring treatment response and disease recurrence;
- Liquid biopsy biomarkers, including circulating tumor DNA, RNA, exosomes, and circulating tumor cells;
- Proteomic, metabolomic, genomic, and epigenetic cancer biomarkers;
- Biomarkers associated with the tumor microenvironment and immune response;
- Biomarkers of cancer progression and metastasis;
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches in biomarker discovery;
- Multi-omics approaches for biomarker identification and validation;
- Biomarkers as therapeutic targets in cancer.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Biomedicines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
