Advancing Evidence-Based Evaluation and Treatment of Children with Language and Reading Disorders
This special issue belongs to the section "Psychiatric, Emotional and Behavioral Disorders".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The evaluation and treatment of childhood language and reading disorders have evolved substantially over recent decades as advances in developmental science, psychometrics, intervention research, and implementation science have expanded the evidence available to clinicians and educators. Despite these advances, significant challenges remain in translating research into equitable, effective, and sustainable practices across diverse clinical and educational settings. High-quality care requires more than the development of valid assessment tools and effective interventions; it depends on integrating scientific evidence with sound clinical decision-making, effective implementation strategies, and ongoing evaluation to improve outcomes for children and their families.
This Special Issue seeks to examine how emerging evidence can strengthen the evaluation and treatment of children with language and reading disorders across clinical and educational contexts. We welcome original empirical studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, methodological investigations, and theoretical contributions that advance evidence-based assessment, intervention, implementation, and service delivery. By bringing together interdisciplinary perspectives, this Special Issue aims to foster dialogue between researchers and practitioners while highlighting innovative approaches that improve the quality and impact of services for children with language and reading disorders.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, screening and early identification, diagnostic and dynamic assessment, language sampling and progress monitoring, intervention efficacy and effectiveness, implementation science, school- and community-based service delivery, technology-assisted assessment and intervention, clinician training and professional development, culturally and linguistically responsive practices, multilingual learners, interdisciplinary models of care, and factors influencing equitable access to evidence-based services. Contributions from speech-language pathology, education, psychology, literacy, developmental science, and related disciplines are encouraged. Through this collection, we hope to advance the scientific evidence that informs evaluation and treatment while promoting meaningful improvements in clinical practice, educational decision-making, and outcomes for children with language and reading disorders.
