Dear Colleagues,
Orthodontics is currently undergoing a profound transformation driven by digital technologies, artificial intelligence, advanced biomechanics, and skeletal anchorage systems. These innovations are changing the way orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, appliance design, and clinical decision-making are performed, enabling increasingly individualized, predictable, and efficient patient care.
Contemporary orthodontics also continues to build upon the biological principles established by Arne Björk, whose pioneering implant-based longitudinal studies on craniofacial growth laid the foundation for our current understanding of individual growth patterns. Today, digital imaging, three-dimensional analysis, and artificial intelligence provide unprecedented opportunities to refine growth prediction and personalize orthodontic treatment while further advancing these fundamental concepts.
This Special Issue aims to present the latest scientific and clinical advances that improve the quality, predictability, and long-term stability of orthodontic treatment. We welcome original research articles, systematic reviews, narrative reviews, and clinical studies focusing on digital workflows, CBCT-based diagnosis and treatment planning, artificial intelligence, three-dimensional imaging, customized appliances, clear aligner therapy, biomechanics, temporary anchorage devices (TADs), skeletal anchorage, interdisciplinary treatment, treatment efficiency, stability, and patient-reported outcomes.
We invite researchers and clinicians worldwide to submit their high-quality work and contribute to advancing evidence-based, biologically sound, and digitally supported orthodontic care.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
