Heat Shock Proteins in Human Physiology and Pathophysiology
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Heat Shock Proteins are molecular chaperones belonging to the Chaperone System whose expression is typically upregulated under stressful conditions to maintain protein homeostasis (proteostasis).
Traditionally considered cytoprotective molecules, Heat Shock Proteins play a central role in human physiology. However, increasing evidence has revealed their multifaceted nature, showing that they may also contribute to the onset and progression of a broad spectrum of diseases (i.e., chaperonopathies).
Consequently, based on the biological context, Heat Shock Proteins could serve as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for evaluating the progression of disease and the response to treatments, as well as therapeutic agents and molecular targets for novel treatment strategies.
This Special Issue aims to explore the complex and controversial role of Heat Shock Proteins, providing an updated and interdisciplinary overview of their involvement in both human physiology and pathophysiology. We welcome the submission of reviews, experimental in vitro or in vivo studies, as well as articles based on novel in silico and computational approaches. We believe that the integration of these complementary methodologies may contribute to a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying Heat Shock Proteins’ function in health and disease.
We look forward to receiving your valuable submissions to stimulate discussion in this interesting area of research.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Biosciences is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
