Advances in Environmental and Feed Toxicity on Poultry Health

Dear Colleagues,

With rapid industrial and agricultural development, environmental pollution and feed safety issues have become increasingly prominent, posing serious challenges to poultry farming. Poultry are continuously exposed to toxic sub-stances—from contaminated air, water, and litter, as well as from mycotoxins, heavy metals, pesticide residues, and other contaminants in feed. These toxicants induce oxidative stress, immunosuppression, intestinal barrier dysfunction, and multi‑organ damage, leading to reduced growth, higher mortality, and economic losses. Moreover, residue accumulation in meat and eggs threatens human health through the food chain, making this a critical One Health concern.

This Special Issue, titled “Advances in Environmental and Feed Toxicity on Poultry Health”, provides an advanced forum for disseminating knowledge on exposure, toxicological mechanisms, risk assessment, and mitigation. This Special Issue focuses on the toxicity mechanism of various environmental toxicants (including metals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, biocides, nanomaterials, polymers, etc.) in poultry research using omics, advanced analytics, and in vivo/vitro models to elucidate oxidative damage, inflammation, and gut microbiota dysbiosis.

We also seek applied research on practical interventions—broad‑spectrum detoxifiers, nutritional modulation, and improved management practices—alongside risk assessment and residue monitoring. By integrating ecotoxicology, physiology, food safety, and environmental health, this Special Issue aims to build a scientific basis for safer poultry production. We invite original articles, reviews, communications, and technical notes, believing this collection will deepen understanding and foster effective solutions for both animal welfare and public health.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
