Smart Agriculture and Bionic Intelligent Equipment: Key Technology Development and Application
This special issue belongs to the section "Agricultural Technology".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The transition from traditional farming to smart agriculture heavily relies on the development of agricultural machinery. Currently, traditional agricultural equipment faces bottlenecks in energy consumption, operational precision, and adaptability to complex field environments. Bionic engineering, drawing inspiration from nature's highly efficient mechanisms, provides breakthrough solutions for agricultural machinery, such as drag reduction, anti-adhesion, and enhanced wear resistance. When combined with smart technologies, bionic intelligent equipment represents the future of agricultural engineering, significantly optimizing soil–machine–plant interactions and improving overall farming efficiency.
This Special Issue highlights the most recent advances related to the design, development, and application of smart agricultural machinery and bionic intelligent equipment. We consider contributions addressing structural innovations, intelligent control systems, and practical field applications of advanced agricultural equipment. Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Application of bionic technologies to enhance the operational performance of agricultural machinery (e.g., drag reduction, anti-adhesion, wear resistance, and low-damage handling);
- Design and development of bionic intelligent sensors and perception systems for agricultural applications;
- Intelligent control, autonomous navigation, and robotic technologies in agricultural equipment;
- Advanced modeling and analysis of soil–machine–plant/crop interactions;
- Innovative design and application of smart agricultural equipment (including but not limited to tillage, planting, plant protection, harvesting, and processing);
- Integration of bionic mechanisms and artificial intelligence for smart farming systems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agriculture is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
