Porto, Portugal | 23–26 May 2024

Volume Editors:

Felisbela Martins, University of Porto, Porto, Portugal

André Samora-Arvela, University Institute of Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal

Cover Story: The cover image depicts the landscape of Douro Valley, characterized by the Douro River, surrounded by terraced vineyards covering the slopes, a distinctive mark of the region's traditional viticulture. This region is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but this landscape faces severe challenges due to climate change, which drive us to discuss and reflect on the resilience of landscapes and territories; in fact, this was the theme of the XVIII International Seminars on Overarching Issues of the European Area, organized by the University of Porto on 23–26 May. Discussions about strategies to mitigate the emerging challenges within a sustainable and resilient framework are illustrated by presenters as abstracts and collected in this volume.
