Children, Volume 9, Issue 3

2022 March - 147 articles

Cover Story: Decision making in the best interest of infants at the border of viability remains challenging for parents and the medical team. While national treatment guidelines continue to focus on arbitrarily set gestational age limits, other factors such as the region of birth, treatment intensity, and the attitude of healthcare practitioners substantially influence the outcome of these extremely preterm infants. This review therefore suggests considering all these factors and also highlights the need to consider self-reported quality of life and social functioning in addition to objective outcome measures such as survival and survival without disability. View this paper
