Cover Story: Antioxidant organic molecules can be employed as probes for the detection and quantitation of biologically relevant oxidants. Dihydroterphenyl derivatives, with an embedded anthranilate moiety, were studied as fluorescent chemosensors/chemodosimeters in this context. An internal charge transfer (ICT) process in their aromatized derivatives was successfully exploited for the turn-on fluorimetric detection and quantitation of H2O2, a model hydroperoxide and hypochlorite having good analytical figures. The method was also applied in a biological context and in an aqueous environment to quantify glucose by enzymatically coupling its oxidation to H2O2 production. View this paper.
