Cover Story: This cover story highlights a new approach to urban traffic noise, an unavoidable pollutant, especially at low frequencies where conventional barriers are bulky and inefficient. Chaotic sound waves from roads, railways, and tunnels are captured by an active-learning-designed acoustic metamaterial resonator and focused into a localized high-pressure region. The amplified field drives an integrated piezoelectric harvester, converting excess noise into usable electricity. By combining AI-guided inverse design, phononic-crystal-inspired resonance, and piezoelectric conversion, the system suppresses noise while powering self-powered urban sensors. Gemini was used as an image-generation aid for the cover. View this paper
