Cover Story: The rapid spread of microbial infections underscores the urgent need for innovative and sustainable disinfection technologies. Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have emerged as a promising solution, leveraging ambient mechanical energy for electro-based disinfection. By employing electroporation, electrochemical oxidation, and electrostatic interactions, TENG-driven disinfection technologies offer an eco-friendly and chemical-free approach to pathogen control. This review highlights recent advancements in TENG-based microbial disinfection, addressing key mechanisms, material innovations, and future challenges. As self-powered and efficient alternatives to traditional technologies, TENGs hold significant potential in public health and in biomedical and environmental applications. View this paper
