Cover Story: Vitamin D supplementation is notable for its role in enhancing insulin secretion and improving insulin receptor function, potentially reducing insulin resistance by lowering inflammation. It aids in maintaining low reactive oxygen species levels, normalizing calcium signaling, and modulating cytokines to reduce inflammation. This review explores Vitamin D’s impact on glycemic control in individuals with T2DM (type 2 diabetes) by analyzing recent studies. Findings suggest that Vitamin D, used alongside antidiabetic medications, may improve glycemic control and lower diabetic complications, serving as a valuable supplement in pharmacological treatments for T2DM.
