Cover Story: The effect of radiation therapy on blood counts is usually reported when combined with chemotherapy, with fairly dramatic declines in blood counts. In actuality, the effect of radiation on blood components other than lymphocytes is fairly minor and transitory. The effect on lymphocytes is more dramatic, and they take longer to recover. These data represent a reference for the effect of radiation therapy on peripheral blood counts. View this paper
