Cover Story: Hepatocellular carcinoma is the leading cause of liver cancer worldwide, with a high incidence in patients with chronic liver diseases. The most resolutive treatment option, if applicable, is liver transplantation, while promising therapies such as immune checkpoint inhibitors are ineffective on some patients. A possible therapeutic strategy and future perspective of modern medicine is to restore the eubiosis of gut microbiota to enhance the efficacy of immunotherapy and use the microbiota fingerprint as a predictive biomarker.
