Cover Story: Dibromo derivatives of benzofused chalcogen–nitrogen heterocycles are important precursors in the synthesis of various photovoltaic materials. 4,7-Dibromobenzo[d][1,2,3]thiadiazole is an isomer and the closest analogue of the well-known 4,7-dibromobenzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole, but thus far, it has yet to be studied. We studied the nucleophilic substitution of this compound with morpholine and showed that the bromine atom in the 4-position of 4,7-dibromobenzo[d][1,2,3]thiadiazole is selectively substituted. The structure of the synthesized 4-(7-bromobenzo[d][1,2,3]thiadiazol-4-yl)morpholine was fully characterized by elemental analysis, high-resolution mass spectrometry, 1H, 13C NMR and IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and X-ray structural analysis.
