Fate, Transport and Effects of Microplastics on the Water Environment
This special issue belongs to the section “Water Quality and Contamination“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The scope of disccussion includes, but is not limited to, understanding the fate, transport and effects of microplastics. Every day, a greater concentration of microplastics is found, not only in water bodies, but also in different compartments such as air and sediments. This is due to the worldwide increase in plastic production to meet the demand for plastics that are used on a daily basis and the lack of robust recycling programs. At this point, it is relevant to understand several of the important environmental effects of microplastics on the humans and ecosystmems, in addition to developing recommendations, regulations and appropiate methodologies to identify and track microplastic concentrations. This issue will update the state-of-the-art and partially fill the knowledge gap regarding this emerging contaminant.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Water is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
