Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Understanding how mobility systems and travel patterns shape the quality of urban environment and its sustainability is a central challenge in contemporary urban research and planning. The rapid growth of urban data—from governmental to crowdsourced and citizen-generated databases—creates new opportunities for analysing urban dynamics with greater spatial and temporal resolution.
This Special Issue focuses on data-driven approaches for exploring the relationships between urban mobility, liveability, and sustainable urban development. Particular attention is given to approaches focusing on the integration of heterogeneous datasets and emerging analytical methods that support evidence-based planning and policy. The increasing availability of open and crowdsourced data offers additional possibilities for capturing local insights and perceived urban conditions that, combined with conventional datasets, can significantly enrich urban analysis.
We welcome original research articles and review papers offering conceptual, methodological, or empirical contributions that advance data-driven understanding of mobility, urban environments, and sustainable cities.
Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Urban analytics related to urban mobility, urban quality, and urban efficiency;
- Data-driven methods for analysing urban dynamics and mobility behaviour;
- Development and application of sustainability and liveability indicators in cities;
- Integration and interoperability of heterogeneous urban datasets;
- Use of open, sensor-based, and crowdsourced data in urban analysis;
- Citizen science, participatory sensing, and volunteered geographic information in urban research;
- Spatial data science and GIS applications for urban studies;
- Analytical tools and digital platforms supporting evidence-based urban planning;
- Neighbourhood-scale assessments of mobility, urban quality, and liveability;
- Data-driven approaches to sustainable mobility and urban development.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Urban Science is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
