Climate Change, Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction–Planning Perspectives

This topical collection belongs to the section “Sustainable Urban and Rural Development“.

Topical Collection Information

Dear Colleagues,

Herewith, we invite papers that deal with climate change, adaptation, and disaster risk reduction in the context of development and spatial and urban planning. The Topical Collection will explore new requirements for planning due to climate change, adaptation, and disaster risk reduction. Moreover, it will examine how spatial and urban development and planning influence climatic conditions in cities, human vulnerability, and exposure and adaptive capacities. In this regard, the Topical Collection will also assess economic and non-economic damages and options to reduce disaster risk and increase adaptation and resilience building. Based on selected case studies in different world regions and cities, the Topical Collection will improve the knowledge base on how climate change, adaptation, and disaster risk reduction are coupled with development and urban and spatial planning. It will help to better bridge the existing gap between conceptual and data-driven analysis of climate change and adaptation on the one hand, and practical planning approaches in urban and spatial development on the other.
