Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are excited to announce our forthcoming Special Issue, entitled "Green Innovations for Sustainable Development Goals Achievement", in which we explore the critical intersection between green chemistry and the imperative for sustainable development. The global pursuit of sustainable development goals (SDGs) underscores an urgent need for innovative solutions, and green chemistry stands at the forefront of this transformative journey. In an ever-evolving world, sustainability has emerged as a pivotal need that transcends geographical boundaries, societal paradigms, and economic structures. Standing as the guiding principle for shaping a future that is both equitable and ecologically resilient, sustainability addresses a multitude of reasons that bear profound implications for humanity and the planet we call home. This publication endeavours to explore the paramount importance of sustainability, reflecting its multidimensional significance. We delve into a rich tapestry of themes, encapsulating environmental preservation, resource conservation, economic stability, climate change mitigation and resilience.

This special issue is dedicated to recognizing and fostering cutting-edge research that leverages green chemistry to realize SDGs. In line with our journal's scope, we aim to investigate how green chemistry, with its ingenuity and forward-thinking strategies, can be a linchpin in achieving sustainable objectives on a global scale. Our goal is to provide a platform for scholars, scientists, and practitioners to share original insights and engage in discourse, propelling the sustainability agenda.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Clean Technologies: Submissions that illustrate the impact of green chemistry on the development of cleaner and more sustainable technologies. This topic relates to SDGs concerned with sustainable industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
  • Bio-Based Chemistry: Articles investigating the development and application of sustainable, bio-based chemicals and materials that resonate with SDGs like life on land, life below water, and climate action.
  • Bio-Based Technologies for Sustainable Engineering Solutions: Articles that apply bio-based technologies to address engineering challenges in a sustainable and eco-friendly manner. This will encourage research related to the integration of biological principles and processes into engineering practices.
  • Sustainable Energy Conversion: Contributions exploring green chemistry's role in renewable energy, energy storage, and sustainable technologies, closely tied to SDGs related to affordable and clean energy.
  • Waste Valorization: Submissions on waste-to-value strategies, including upcycling and resource recovery, aligned with several SDGs, such as responsible production and sustainable cities.
  • Eco-Friendly Synthesis: Contributions exploring novel eco-friendly synthesis methods, green solvents, and sustainable catalysis that align with SDGs related to clean water, responsible consumption, and climate action.
  • Renewable Resources: Articles focusing on the utilization of renewable resources in the design of sustainable and green processes, especially those linked to SDGs for affordable and clean energy.
  • Sustainable Water: Articles under this theme would explore how green chemistry can contribute to addressing water pollution, sanitation, and efficient water resource management, aligning with SDGs related to clean water and sanitation.
  • Circular Economy: Investigations into green chemistry's role in establishing circular economy models, emphasizing closed-loop processes, recycling, and waste reduction, relevant to several SDGs, including responsible production and sustainable cities.
  • Green Nanotechnology: Articles addressing sustainable nanomaterials, their synthesis, applications, and their significance in achieving SDGs related to responsible consumption, industry, innovation, and clean water.
  • Sustainable Agriculture: Contributions discussing green chemistry's role in the development of sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices, impacting SDGs linked to zero hunger and life on land.
  • Climate Mitigation and Adaptation: Research elucidating green chemistry's contribution to climate change mitigation and adaptation, in resonance with SDGs addressing climate action, sustainable cities, and resilient ecosystems.

We extend a warm invitation to researchers and experts worldwide, who should join us in this exploration of green chemistry's central role in advancing sustainable development goals. Your research can illuminate the path to a more sustainable and inclusive world. We eagerly anticipate the submission of your valuable contributions to this Special Issue.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
