Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions remain the primary driver of climate change, and achieving carbon neutrality requires not only ambitious mitigation targets but also robust, transparent, and comparable approaches for GHG monitoring, accounting, and verification. This Special Issue of Sustainability, entitled ‘Greenhouse Gas Control Strategies for Climate Protection’, aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for cutting-edge research that advances the quantification of GHG sources and sinks, improves monitoring and reporting methodologies across scales, and evaluates effective control and mitigation strategies in real-world systems. We welcome original research and review articles that address both methodological innovations and actionable mitigation pathways, spanning atmospheric observations, modeling, emission inventories, and sectoral decarbonization solutions.

Scope (including, but not limited to, the following):

  • GHG monitoring and measurement technologies (ground-based, mobile, remote sensing), uncertainty analysis, and MRV frameworks.
  • Emission accounting methods and inventories (facility/city/region/national scales), source apportionment, and verification approaches.
  • Control and mitigation strategies for CO2/CH4/N2O and other climate-relevant gases, including technology and management interventions.
  • Life cycle assessment (LCA) and system-level evaluation of low-carbon technologies and mitigation measures.
  • Sector-focused studies (e.g., energy, industry, buildings, agriculture, waste and sanitation systems) and cross-sector integration toward carbon neutrality.
  • Case studies, policy-relevant analyses, and scalable strategies supporting carbon-neutral transitions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
