Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The hospitality industry plays a critical role in global economic development and social well-being; however, it is also associated with significant environmental pressures, social challenges, and managerial complexities. In recent years, growing concerns related to climate change, resource scarcity, technological disruption, and changing consumer expectations have intensified the need for more sustainable and responsible approaches to hospitality management. Consequently, sustainable development has become a central topic in both academic research and managerial practice within the hospitality sector.
Although a substantial body of literature has addressed sustainability issues in tourism and hospitality, important research gaps remain—particularly regarding the integration of new methods, strategic approaches, and emerging technologies that can effectively support environmental resilience, social equity, and long-term economic viability. Recent advances in digitalization, data analytics, eco-innovation, and sustainability-oriented business models offer promising opportunities to rethink traditional management practices and develop more holistic and evidence-based solutions.
The aim of this Special Issue is to advance knowledge on sustainable development and management in hospitality by bringing together high-quality original research articles and reviews that explore innovative methods, strategies, and technologies. The Special Issue seeks to build upon and extend the existing literature by adopting interdisciplinary perspectives and addressing both theoretical and practical implications. In line with the scope of Sustainability, contributions should focus on the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability, providing insights that are relevant for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.
This Special Issue particularly welcomes studies that propose new conceptual frameworks, empirical evidence from diverse global contexts, and methodological advancements that contribute to a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable hospitality sector.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome, and research areas may include (but need not be limited to) the following topics:
- Innovative sustainability strategies in hospitality operations;
- Digital technologies (e.g., AI, IoT, big data) for sustainable decision-making;
- Circular economy and resource efficiency in hospitality;
- Sustainability performance measurement and reporting;
- Stakeholder engagement and community-oriented practices;
- Sustainable business model innovation;
- Corporate social responsibility, governance, and policy implications;
- Resilience and adaptive management in hospitality;
- Consumer behaviour and sustainable hospitality experiences;
- Comparative and international perspectives on hospitality sustainability.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.
