Research Trends in Urban Air Quality, Climate and Pollution

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue, “Research Trends in Urban Air Quality, Climate and Pollution”, focuses on advancing scientific understanding of the interactions between urban atmospheric processes, climate dynamics, and pollution in the context of sustainable development. Rapid urbanization, climate change, and increasing anthropogenic emissions pose significant challenges to environmental quality, public health, and socio-economic resilience in cities worldwide. This Special Issue aims to collate interdisciplinary research quantifying urban air pollution, assessing climate–air quality interactions, and evaluating mitigation and adaptation strategies at multiple spatial and temporal scales.

The scope of this Issue includes observational analyses, modeling studies, sustainability indicators, and policy-relevant assessments addressing emissions, exposure, health impacts, and climate feedback. Particular emphasis is placed on tools and methodologies for monitoring and managing air quality, evaluating urban sustainability, and supporting evidence-based policymaking.

By integrating atmospheric science, urban planning, public health, and socio-economic perspectives, this Special Issue complements the existing literature by linking fundamental research with practical sustainability applications. It contributes to the development of measurable, actionable, and scalable solutions that support cleaner air, climate resilience, and sustainable urban systems.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
