Sustainable Development Pathways: Economic, Management, and Governance Responses to Climate and Environmental Change
This special issue belongs to the section "Economic and Business Aspects of Sustainability".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals is unfolding against a backdrop of accelerating climate change, biodiversity loss, energy system transformations, and growing pressure on food and water resources. Achieving sustainability outcomes under these conditions requires coordinated economic, managerial, and governance responses that operate across sectors, scales, and institutional settings. This Special Issue brings together research that advances the theoretical, empirical, and policy understanding of how economies, organizations, and governance systems can support sustainable development pathways in a changing climate and environment.
We invite original research, comparative case studies, and methodological contributions from environmental and resource economics, energy and agricultural economics, regional and spatial economics, sustainability management, corporate sustainability and ESG, and environmental and climate governance. Empirical work employing panel and spatial econometrics, input–output and CGE modelling, life cycle and ecosystem services valuation, scenario and pathway analysis, institutional analysis, and mixed-methods designs is particularly welcome. Submissions linking micro-level decisions of firms, farms, and households to macro-level sustainability outcomes, and those drawing on evidence from Central and Eastern Europe, the European Union, and other regions undergoing structural transitions, are of special interest.
Topics include, but are not limited to, the following: progress and trade-offs across the Sustainable Development Goals; renewable energy transitions and their regional economic effects; sustainable agriculture, food security, and rural development; climate adaptation and mitigation policy instruments; circular and bioeconomy strategies; corporate sustainability, ESG, and sustainable management practices; environmental and climate governance; just transitions and energy poverty; ecosystem services and natural capital accounting; and the economic evaluation of sustainability policies.
