With plastic pollution, carbon emissions, and resource scarcity at critical levels, the shift to sustainable materials is accelerating; consequently, this Special Issue captures a pivotal moment, offering a timely resource to inform strategy, education, and decision-making for a regenerative future. Sustainable Biomaterials and Green Innovation is a Special Issue that offers a forward-looking exploration of the transition from fossil-based materials to renewable, low-carbon alternatives, and synthesizes cutting-edge research, industry applications, and policy frameworks to present a holistic view of how biomaterials are driving the next wave of sustainable innovation. This Special Issue offers a unique interdisciplinary and global perspective, connecting scientific research with real-world business, policy, and diverse international case studies. It also provides a practical, forward-looking vision by addressing the challenges of commercialization while exploring how biomaterials contribute to climate resilience, biodiversity, and sustainable supply chains. Aimed at researchers, industry professionals, policymakers, and students, it bridges scientific depth with real-world relevance, providing actionable insights into the materials that will shape tomorrow’s circular economy.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
