Magnetic Sensors for Safety and Control

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Magnetic sensing technologies are widely disseminated in society, with many successful products in the market integrating spintronic sensors—in particular, magnetoresistive sensors (MR). The outstanding performance, small size and compatibility with CMOS electronics are some of the reasons spintronics has been explored so enthusiastically for many different applications, from biochips to smart integration in novel IoT architectures.  

This Special Issue is dedicated to the integration of MR sensors for control and security applications (not military). Applications such as magnetic information reading (recording media or security paper), selective labelling for biomedical, or magnetic sensors for non-destructive testing for surface defect detection, usually require a high degree of integration with electronics and data transfer towards a smart system product.

Papers should address the wide range of options offered by MR sensors (TMR and GMR), including: security paper, object position sensing (including linear and rotational encoders), applications in surface mapping (magnetic cameras, non-destructive testing), integration with flexible electronics, information storage (tape and disk head magnetic information security), magnetic cryptography, smart packaging with RF-ID modules for security keys and integration with systems for biological control (environmental and food).

Both review articles and original research papers are solicited. This Special Issue will strongly benefit from papers highlighting the key factors for the success of MR sensors in applications that have not been possible with other magnetic sensors.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
