Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue aims to bring together recent advances in AI-driven intelligent sensor systems for healthcare and medical applications. Sensor technologies are increasingly being integrated with artificial intelligence, edge computing, Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, wearable and mobile devices, multimodal data analytics and emerging agentic AI approaches to enable continuous health monitoring, early diagnosis, personalised care, clinical decision support, rehabilitation assessment and real-time physiological or behavioural analysis. Agentic AI systems, including autonomous or semi-autonomous decision-support frameworks, have the potential to enhance adaptive monitoring, personalised intervention planning, workflow automation and context-aware interpretations of complex healthcare sensor data.
These developments are particularly important in modern healthcare, where reliable interpretation of complex sensor data can support early intervention, improve patient outcomes, reduce clinical workloads and enable more accessible and scalable medical monitoring solutions. We invite original research articles, review papers and applied case studies addressing topics including, but not limited to, wearable and mobile health sensing, biomedical signal processing, AI-based physiological monitoring, smart medical devices, IoT-enabled healthcare systems, edge AI for real-time health applications, multimodal sensor fusion for diagnosis and monitoring, remote patient monitoring, rehabilitation and movement assessment, sports and exercise health monitoring, assistive and personalised healthcare technologies, agentic AI for adaptive sensing and decision support, cybersecurity and privacy in medical IoT systems and robust AI methods for noisy, heterogeneous or uncertain biomedical sensor data. Contributions that demonstrate practical deployments, benchmark datasets, interpretable AI methods, low-power or real-time implementations, federated or collaborative learning and clinically relevant validation of intelligent sensing systems are especially encouraged.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- AI-driven sensor systems;
- Agentic AI for healthcare sensing
- Edge AI for healthcare;
- Intelligent healthcare monitoring;
- Wearable sensors;
- Biomedical signal processing;
- Medical Internet of Things;
- Agentic AI in healthcare
- Multimodal sensor fusion;
- Remote patient monitoring;
- Personalised healthcare;
- Clinical decision support.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
