Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The synthesis of novel molecular entities remains the cornerstone of modern therapeutics, providing the essential framework for developing highly specific, targeted therapies. As our understanding of disease pathology deepens, the demand for precision in molecular design has never been greater. The rapid evolution of predictive in silico techniques now allows for the identification of increasingly complex and highly defined structures. To translate these computational blueprints into reality, contemporary synthetic chemistry must evolve, adopting innovative methodologies that offer superior chemo-, regio-, and stereoselectivity.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, "Advanced Synthetic Methods in Pharmaceutical Chemistry", which seeks to bridge the gap between advanced computational design and the practical realities of modern laboratory synthesis.

This Special Issue aims to explore the frontiers of modern synthesis, specifically focusing on the transition from theoretical molecular blueprints to sustainable chemical reality. By emphasizing the integration of Green Chemistry principles, we aim to showcase how the pharmaceutical industry can shift toward more sustainable practices. This includes the adoption of alternative synthetic platforms—such as microwave-assisted synthesis, sonochemistry, and flow chemistry - which are becoming indispensable for enhancing reaction efficiency while reducing the environmental footprint of drug development.

The subject of this Special Issue is intrinsically linked to the Aims & Scope of Scientia Pharmaceutica, as it addresses the fundamental chemical innovations required for pharmaceutical progress. We have defined a scope that is sufficiently broad to include diverse enabling technologies, yet focused specifically on their application in drug discovery and development.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following: Advanced Synthetic Methodologies: Development of techniques for superior chemo-, regio-, and stereoselectivity; Green Pharmaceutical Chemistry: Implementation of sustainable and atom-economical synthetic routes; Alternative Energy Sources in Synthesis: Microwave-assisted synthesis and sonochemistry; Flow Chemistry and Automation: Transitioning from batch to continuous flow for pharmaceutical intermediates; Sustainable Drug Development: Strategies to enhance reaction efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of pharmaceutical innovation. We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Scientia Pharmaceutica is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
