Soil Pollution and Sustainable Management Under Global Change
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Soil pollution has become a critical environmental challenge under global change, driven by rapid industrialization, intensive agricultural production, urban expansion, climate change, and increasing waste generation. Pollutants such as heavy metals, pesticides, petroleum hydrocarbons, antibiotics, microplastics, and other emerging contaminants can accumulate in soil and further migrate to groundwater, food chains, and surrounding ecosystems, threatening ecological security and human health. At the same time, global change is reshaping soil processes by altering hydrological conditions, biogeochemical cycling, contaminant mobility, microbial activity, and ecosystem resilience. Therefore, advancing soil pollution control, remediation, risk assessment, and sustainable management is essential to protect soil resources and support green and low-carbon development.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate recent advances in soil pollution, remediation, and sustainable management under global change. We welcome original research articles and reviews that address the sources, processes, risks, remediation technologies, and management strategies of soil pollution. Contributions focusing on the interactions between soil pollution and groundwater contamination, solid waste utilization, emerging pollutants, biogeochemical processes, and environmental risk assessment are particularly encouraged. This Special Issue seeks to provide a platform for interdisciplinary discussion and to promote innovative technologies and management approaches for sustainable soil resource protection.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Soil pollution processes under global change;
- Soil and groundwater contamination risk assessment;
- Remediation technologies for heavy metals and organic pollutants;
- Emerging contaminants in soil environments;
- Microplastics and combined pollution in soil systems;
- Biogeochemical cycling and pollutant transformation;
- Solid waste valorization and soil amendment applications;
- Sustainable soil management and ecological restoration;
- Monitoring, modeling, and early warning of soil pollution;
- Policy, regulation, and management strategies for soil resource protection.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Resources is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
