Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Optical studies and technologies rely on the sophisticated design of optical systems—from imaging the smallest details of life to enabling global communication and powering next-generation computing. With rapid advances in market demands, design methodologies, and fabrication technologies, we are entering an exciting new era, where optical systems are becoming more compact, efficient, multimodal, and multifunctional than ever before.
This Special Issue, Design and Construction of Optical Systems, welcomes contributions that showcase creativity, innovation, and system design philosophy in the field of photonics and optics. We are particularly interested in research that introduces novel design principles, cutting-edge construction techniques, and groundbreaking applications, probably with matched processing or control algorithms. Potential topics include (but are not limited to) advanced optical systems and architectures, computational and adaptive optics, integrated photonics and fiber systems, laser design and beam engineering, optical imaging and sensing, holography and 3D display, optical manipulation, as well as interdisciplinary approaches connecting optics with artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and biomedical engineering.
Our aim is to provide a vibrant platform for researchers and engineers to share new ideas, demonstrate effective and functional optical systems and their construction, and inspire the future of optical science and technology. We warmly invite all the potential authors to submit their latest research and join us in shaping this dynamic field.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
