Emerging Optical Imaging Techniques for Biological Research

Optical imaging technologies have paved the way for non-invasive visualization at various scales, from the molecular intricacies within cells to the complex interactions within tissues and organisms. These cutting-edge methodologies provide researchers with the ability to observe dynamic biological processes in real time, revolutionizing the study of life sciences.

The evolution of optical imaging has witnessed remarkable advancements, from the development of super-resolution microscopy enabling visualization at the nanoscale to the integration of multiphoton imaging and label-free modalities for a deeper understanding of biological structures and functions. These breakthroughs have propelled the field towards new horizons, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and driving the exploration of novel applications in biological and biomedical research.

This Special Issue aims to encapsulate the forefront of research in this domain, presenting a comprehensive overview of the latest methodologies, tools, and applications that are shaping the future of biological imaging. We invite visionary contributions encompassing original research articles, insightful reviews, and perspectives that highlight the transformative impact of optical imaging in elucidating fundamental biological mechanisms. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following: microscopy techniques, fluorescence microscopy, super-resolution imaging, correlative microscopy, multiphoton microscopy, photoacoustic imaging, image analysis, optical probes, label-free imaging, and multimodal imaging.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
