Advanced Spectral Technology and Imaging

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Spectral technology and imaging have emerged as powerful tools for material characterization, environmental monitoring, biomedical diagnostics, and industrial inspection.

In recent years, advanced spectral technology and imaging have demonstrated tremendous potential across scientific research, environmental monitoring, industrial inspection, optical communication, and medical diagnostics. By capturing and analyzing light–matter interactions across different wavelengths, these techniques provide rich chemical and physical information with high precision. Spectral imaging enables the simultaneous acquisition of spatial and spectral information from a target. High-resolution, high-sensitivity spectroscopic imaging techniques have not only driven groundbreaking advancements in materials science, environmental monitoring, and biomedical research but have also opened new avenues for AI-driven data analysis and multimodal imaging fusion. Recent advancements have significantly enhanced the speed, accuracy, and practical applicability of spectral instrumentation and spectroscopic imaging.

This Special Issue invites manuscripts that introduce the recent advances in spectral technology and imaging. All theoretical, numerical, and experimental papers are accepted. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  •  Novel spectroscopic instrument design and development;
  •  Advances in high-resolution spectroscopy;
  •  Portable and handheld systems for field applications;
  •  Innovations in core component technologies for spectrometers;
  •  Super-resolution and hyperspectral imaging;
  •  AI-assisted spectral data analysis;
  •  Applications of spectral technology;
  •  Innovative approaches in medical spectroscopic imaging;
  •  Real-time imaging capabilities for dynamic analysis;
  •  Raman spectroscopy.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
