Diet, Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome

This special issue belongs to the section “Nutrition and Metabolism“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Obesity has become a global issue and represents one of the most significant public health challenges of our time. It is a major risk factor for a cluster of metabolic abnormalities collectively known as metabolic syndrome, which includes central obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. The prevalence of both obesity and metabolic syndrome is increasing at an alarming rate worldwide, contributing significantly to the burden of non-communicable diseases, primarily type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Diet and lifestyle are cornerstone factors in the etiology, prevention, and management of obesity and metabolic syndrome. Poor dietary patterns, characterized by a high intake of energy-dense, nutrient-poor foods, coupled with sedentary behavior, create a state of chronic positive energy balance that drives weight gain and metabolic dysfunction. Conversely, specific dietary interventions, functional foods, and bioactive compounds have shown great promise in mitigating these conditions. Understanding the intricate mechanisms through which nutrients and dietary patterns modulate metabolic pathways is crucial for developing effective, evidence-based nutritional strategies.

This Special Issue, entitled "Diet, Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome", aims to gather the latest high-quality research on this critical topic. We invite the submission of original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and meta-analyses that explore the complex interplay between diet, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
