Dear Colleagues,
Nutrition plays a vital role in the management of many genetic disorders, offering a non-invasive and highly personalized approach to improving quality of life and clinical outcomes.
Genetic conditions such as phenylketonuria (PKU), galactosemia, maple syrup urine disease (MSUD), and familial hypercholesterolemia often require specific dietary interventions to prevent serious complications. With advances in genomic research, dietary strategies can now be more precisely tailored to individual metabolic needs, minimizing symptoms and supporting normal growth and development.
In addition to metabolic disorders, many genetic syndromes, such as Down syndrome, Prader–Willi syndrome, and Williams syndrome, benefit from targeted nutritional support. These syndromes may be associated with unique challenges, including feeding difficulties, altered energy needs, obesity risk, and micronutrient deficiencies. A thoughtful, syndrome-specific dietary approach can help manage comorbidities, support cognitive development, and enhance overall health and well-being.
This Special Issue will explore the intersection of genetics and nutrition, highlighting evidence-based dietary approaches for both inherited metabolic disorders and complex genetic syndromes. By integrating nutritional science with genomics, clinicians and researchers can better support patient health, reduce disease burden, and promote personalized care in the evolving field of genetic medicine.
