Physical Activity and Its Influence on Eating Behavior in Connection with Obesity

This special issue belongs to the section “Nutrition and Obesity“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The effectiveness of physical activity for weight loss is controversial, but its countless health benefits are undeniable. People who carry out intense physical activity seem to have a better appetite control and can more successfully maintain a leaner body mass in our obesogenic environment. Reasons for this apparent difference between people with low and high physical activity are still not completely understood, ranging from less stimulation of energy intake, better satiety, different preferences for food types, reward response, and a desire towards food and others. Clearly, physiological and psychological mechanisms are suggested to be related to hormonal systems and perceptual learned responses.

For this Special Issue, we invite colleagues to submit work that could improve our understanding of why physical activity can make people more resistant to our obesogenic environment. These may include cross-sectional, longitudinal, and meta-analytical studies that investigate the differences between physically active and inactive people in relation to eating behaviors and their connection with physiological and psychological determinants. Moreover, interventional studies that focus on the medium–long-term effects of increased  physical activity on eating behaviors are invited.
