Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

According to the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD), early-life exposures can alter organ structure and function, subsequently influencing health and disease risk later in life. One of these exposures is maternal nutrition and metabolic health. In particular, maternal under- and over-nutrition around the time of pregnancy (e.g., before, during, and after) affects health and developmental outcomes in offspring. Similarly, maternal metabolic health status, often characterized by blood glucose regulation, blood pressure control, cholesterol profile, triglyceride levels, and fat distribution, can profoundly impact the offspring.

This Special Issue will collect recent research manuscripts examining the roles of maternal nutrition and metabolic health status during pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, and postpartum in the offspring's physical growth, neurocognitive development, emotional regulation, and social well-being. Both human and animal research will be considered. Our goal is to consolidate new scientific evidence in the field of DOHaD, informing health practices and inspiring further innovative research.
