Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers—including colorectal, gastric, pancreatic, esophageal, and hepatobiliary malignancies—represent a major global health burden, with rising incidence and mortality rates in many regions. Despite advances in screening, diagnostics, and therapy, the prognosis for many GI cancers remains poor, largely due to their complex and multifactorial etiology. A growing body of research highlights the critical roles played by genetic, nutritional, and inflammatory factors in the initiation, progression, and therapeutic response of GI cancers.

This Special Issue seeks to bring together cutting-edge research and comprehensive reviews that explore the interplay between inherited and acquired genetic alterations, dietary exposures, and chronic inflammation in gastrointestinal tumorigenesis. We aim to highlight mechanistic studies that elucidate how specific gene–environment interactions and inflammatory signaling pathways drive malignant transformation and influence disease course. Contributions addressing the impact of the gut microbiome, nutrient-gene interactions, and inflammation-associated epigenetic modifications are particularly encouraged.

By fostering an interdisciplinary dialog between genetics, nutrition science, oncology, and immunology, this Special Issue aims to advance our understanding of GI cancer biology and promote the development of personalized prevention and treatment strategies.

Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
