Emergency Medicine: Current Status

Dear Colleagues,

The daily reality of complex medical situations, resulting in pain, distress and mass casualty events, are all part of our professional lives. All this chaos is our prescribed course, and the reason for our specialty lies in our unique skill ability to proactively plan for the “unthinkable”.

The growth in challenges and the advancement in medical sciences are the key factors that have led to the development of the specialty of emergency medicine and the progress in anesthesiology and intensive care.

The concepts of “systems save lives”, “the golden hour” and “platinum minutes”; the transition from the “scoop and run” model to the current “run and play” strategy; “damage control” philosophy; the introduction of ECMO and AI integration to support clinical decision-making or advanced device use in resuscitation and the field of medicine are all integral components of the fundamental approach to enhancing the probability of survival and rehabilitation of a patient in an emergency situation.

More than in any other sector of medicine, the key to success is represented by multidirectional integration within the multi-agency climate—operational, tactical—conceptual and standardized—and by strategies for implementing findings from scientific research in current practice, from the initial stage of the incident, through medical evacuation, to the appropriate hospital, in the right time.

I kindly invite you to collaborate on the results of your distinguished medical, scientific and academic research career, in the spirit of interdisciplinarity that is essential for emergency medicine. This will help to outline advanced concepts and practices, establish new foundations for cutting-edge research, personalize and customize solutions and enhance comradery.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
