Urban and Cultural Landscapes, Green Infrastructure and Ecosystem Services: Creative and Climate Resilient Design and Management

Dear Colleagues,

The Special Issue aligns with the scope of Land, which emphasizes the ecosystem services provided by green infrastructure, with particular focus on the environmental and social value of cultural landscapes, historic urban gardens and green spaces and their appeal to tourists, and the interplay between historic landscapes and contemporary open spaces in the city.

The goal of this Special Issue is to collect papers (original research articles and review papers) to give insights about the importance of cultural and historic landscapes in the shape and creative management of contemporary landscapes and urban open spaces and to highlight the importance of greenery in the evolution of cityscapes and urban green infrastructures. The topic is closely linked to landscape architecture and open space design, as the preservation, restoration, creative design and development of historic gardens and cultural landscapes are significantly hampered by the problems caused by global climate change (prolonged dry spells, rising temperatures, flash floods), as well as the economic context and, in many cases, the lack of proper management.

This Special Issue will welcome manuscripts that link the following themes:

• Cultural and historic landscapes;
• Urban historic sites;
• Green infrastructure;
• Ecosystem services;
• Role of greeneries (especially of veteran trees) in climate-resilient landscape design.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Land is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
