Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Contemporary approaches to cognitive assessment are being reshaped by developments in cognitive neuroscience, psychometrics, computational methods, and digital technologies. At the same time, fundamental questions concerning the nature of cognitive abilities, the interpretation of test performance, ecological validity, and the relationship between brain and behavior continue to be actively debated.

This Special Issue seeks contributions that advance current understanding of cognitive abilities testing and assessment from psychometric, neurocognitive, methodological, and applied perspectives. We welcome empirical studies, theoretical papers, and methodological contributions addressing intelligence and cognitive abilities, executive functions, attention, working memory, process-based assessment, neurocognitive assessment, AI-enabled assessment, cross-cultural assessment, and lifespan perspectives on cognition.

Special consideration will be given to studies integrating psychometric and neuroscientific approaches, as well as papers examining emerging directions in cognitive assessment, including multimodal, computational, and ecologically informed frameworks. The aim of this Special Issue is to encourage interdisciplinary discussion on how cognitive abilities are conceptualized, measured, and interpreted across research, educational, and clinical settings.

In addition to traditional cognitive abilities, the Special Issue welcomes contributions addressing emotional abilities, emotional intelligence, and related non-cognitive constructs, particularly when examined through assessment, psychometric, neuropsychological, educational, developmental, or neuroscientific perspectives and in relation to cognitive functioning and real-world outcomes.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-anonymized peer-review process. Journal of Intelligence is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
