Dietary Interventions and Nutritional Health During Pregnancy
This special issue belongs to the section "Global Health".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Optimal nutrition during pregnancy is fundamental to maternal health, fetal development, and long‑term outcomes for both mother and child. Despite increasing recognition of its importance, suboptimal dietary intake, food insecurity, and nutrition‑related pregnancy complications remain common worldwide, particularly among populations facing social and economic disadvantage.
Over the past decade, research has increasingly shown that what women eat during pregnancy—and the nutrition support they receive—can strongly influence pregnancy outcomes, including gestational weight gain, gestational diabetes, hypertensive disorders, and birth outcomes. While evidence from observational studies and clinical trials continues to grow, there is still a need to better translate this knowledge into practical, effective, and equitable dietary interventions that can be implemented in real‑world healthcare and community settings.
This Special Issue aims to showcase high‑quality research on dietary interventions and strategies to improve nutritional health during pregnancy. We welcome original research, reviews, and implementation studies employing robust methodologies, including randomised controlled trials, longitudinal designs, and systematic reviews. Submissions focusing on food‑based and behavioural interventions, micronutrient strategies, culturally appropriate approaches, and interventions targeting women at increased nutritional or metabolic risk are particularly encouraged.
By bringing together research that combines scientific rigour with real‑world relevance, this Special Issue seeks to inform clinical practice, public health policy, and future research to support healthier and more equitable pregnancies.
