Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
While mental health is a key global health priority, substantial challenges in accessing quality, holistic, and equitable mental healthcare persist. The rising burden of mental health conditions necessitates transformative solutions leveraging advanced technologies and novel care models. Artificial intelligence (AI) and current digital innovations are poised to redefine mental healthcare, offering unprecedented scalable, personalized, and proactive support.
To explore this, the Special Issue "Healthcare Innovation and AI in Mental Health" is calling for original research, reviews, conceptual papers, and practice-based insights. We seek interdisciplinary work on how technological innovation, particularly AI and digital health technologies, can revolutionize mental healthcare systems, addressing the development, evaluation, implementation, and ethical considerations of these emerging tools for diverse populations. Topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- AI and digital health approaches in mental health screening, diagnosis, and prediction.
- Precision medicine approaches in mental healthcare.
- Machine learning for mental healthcare, suicide prevention, crisis intervention, and relapse detection.
- Chatbots and digital companions for mental and emotional health support.
- Ethical and legal considerations of AI in mental healthcare.
- Evidence from big datasets to inform mental healthcare and policy.
- Culturally responsive AI mental healthcare approaches.
- AI-powered clinical decision making in mental health settings.
- Innovations to reduce healthcare disparities in serious mental illness, trauma, and underserved populations care.
We seek scientific contributions from researchers, clinicians, stakeholders, public health professionals, and policymakers who are evaluating the integration of AI technology and innovation in mental healthcare. The goal of this Special Issue and Editorial Team is to highlight promising AI tools and evidence-based models, improving mental health outcomes, reducing disparities, and strengthening mental health systems globally.
